I happen to be sitting in the Harvard Law Library reading room right now and I could swear I just heard the entire physical infrastructure of the building groan in disgust.
That's my 🚆💵✊👇#PresidentWarren is electable if we focus on who would do the best job, show the most compassion, and advocate for the best policies. And if men get over our internalized sexism and vote. for. her.
Pass it on! https://twitter.com/JoeCurtatone/status/1229551380924444673
Just a reminder that the very simplest and easiest thing Jeff Bezos could do to have a large impact with regard to fighting climate change *right now* would be to simply cancel all of his own company's oil + gas contracts. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/17/technology/jeff-bezos-climate-change-earth-fund.html
Broke: Wow, Jeff Bezos committed $10 billion to climate!
Woke: I'll believe these grants are given, in full, when I see it.
Bespoke: wake me when there's a shred of evidence these funds ever get to responsible people who can accomplish ANYTHING w/o huge cuts in fossil fuels.
"True visionaries stand up against entrenched systems, often at great cost to themselves. We applaud Jeff Bezos’ philanthropy, but one hand cannot give what the other is taking away...When is Amazon going to stop helping oil & gas companies ravage Earth?" -@AMZNforClimate
It’s #PresidentsDay today - next year I want #46 to be #PresidentElizabethWarren!
If you want big, structural, progressive change then will you join me & donate $46, $4.60 or even $460 to help make @ewarren the 46th President? #WinWithWarren https://secure.actblue.com/donate/sheiswithus
This is the richest country on Earth.
Our people should not have to beg for money on GoFundMe to pay for cancer treatment or insulin.
Health care should be a right to all our people, not a way for a handful of rich executives to make a profit.
I’m excited to read @susanthesquark book and also hope it will serve as a gateway for some readers from liberal to more radical feminism. Gender equality is not possible when corporations hold this much arbitrary power to ruin a (n even quite privileged) person’s life at a whim.
Like a lot of people, I've been eager to read @susanthesquark's book Whistleblower.
Seeing an excerpt like this makes me realize I'm honestly not sure what I expected from the book - but this story is more chilling, and therefore more inspiring. Check it out. https://twitter.com/susanthesquark/status/1229397506146078720
@moiragweigel @bentarnoff it'd mean a lot to me if you could ask friends/colleagues to comment re: question above🙏👼
Oh-they should know I'm talking about *secular* spirituality, though they can answer however they want;
& FWIW, excited to discuss similar w/@martinhaegglund
The fascinating @bentarnoff to me, @TechCrunch: "To what degree are people given opportunity to realize their potential, to create themselves? There's almost a spiritual component to it."
Does socialism have any spiritual component for you? If so, how? https://twitter.com/moiragweigel/status/1229096101820719104
Always fun to get to talk to @moiragweigel and/or @bentarnoff & honestly if you can't picture them being cast as young Sarte & de Beauvoir in some sort of PBS docu-drama, I don't know what to tell you. https://twitter.com/moiragweigel/status/1229096099996209152
If anyone's still reading this thread: I said "condemn it CLEARLY." Which it took Dawkins many hours to get around to doing. His original tweet was begging for misinterpretation by confused or malicious readers. He should know and do better.
hey guys remember when Bloomberg endorsed Republican Senator Scott Brown against Democrat Elizabeth Warren? https://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/27/nyregion/bloomberg-gives-support-to-senator-scott-brown.html
Why yes my son and I *are* dragging our whole family to the Monster Truck Rally, why do you ask?!?!
*checks into Twitter*
*sees people defending stop and frisk and... um, eugenics*
*throws phone into the sea*
So unacceptable for Richard Dawkins to tweet about eugenics without clearly condemning it. Dawkins is *supposedly* one of our exemplars of humanism & science outreach. Yet today he's given every manner of passive and active bigot an opening to "consider" persecution on steroids. https://twitter.com/CharlesMBlow/status/1229018795941015552
The gross statement that eugenics could “work” also ignores the fact that as soon as you talk about identifying “superior” or “desirable” traits, you ARE applying an ideology of some sort. But men like Dawkins think they’ve transcended ideology and only operate in facts 🙄 https://twitter.com/RichardDawkins/status/1228943686953664512
The thing about people who believe in eugenics is that they always believe themselves to be the superior kind of human. No-one ever thinks that it could make *people like them* obsolete...
Too many people replying to Dawks‘ eugenics tweet with “nuh uh it doesn’t work here are examples,” not enough with “despite its sneaky framing this tweet is supportive of eugenics look no further than the fact there’s now a trending discussion about whether eugenics works.”
