  • Oh hi Guardian, could you leave Jews the fuck alone please? Could you leave 14 million people in a world of 7.5 *billion* the fuck alone? Not only is this article full of inaccuracies and opinion (not fact), your replies are full of Holocaust denial and antisemitism. Again.

  • The Left’s obsession with Jewish identity is bordering on mania. It is not surprising that Guardian is covering after Gideon Levy published a rather trite and predictable piece on similar subject

  • It's just their new way to erase Jews. Now it's all about denying we're a people at all. I mean FFS quoting Shlomo Sand...

  • Yes, this article focuses on Ashkenazis exclusively. No mention of Sephardi Jews or Mizrahi Jews or African Jews. Or atheist Jews.

  • Or indeed Kaifeng Jews or Indian and Burmese Jews... it's all self-obsessed anti-Zionist shit.

  • They won't mention the diversity of Jewishness. It doesn't fit their narrative.

  • This is such a clumsy approach to a very sensitive subject. The thread of the whole piece to associate Jewish ethnicity with negative white supremacists efforts to construct biological race. It's a deliberate narrative framing in the left to demonise. Stop defining Jews.

  • Yes, if it just reflects the fact that humans have lived in groups separated from others, then it's not very meaningful. Presumably the same testing could be done for, say, Catholics in Europe.

  • Who would want to? Catholics are not a race. As far as I know all religions want to bring people in, not keep them out. All I can see from this law of proving your race to be allowed to marry is racial superiority. How very sad.

  • Racial superiority - when Israel is literally one of the most diverse societies in the world? Are you having a laugh?

  • Oh I see: not only is this article full of inaccuracies, it’s basically a thinly-veiled attack on Israel. A lot of ppl have issues with secular v religious issues in Israel, but this is AS. Unreal.

  • I didn't see this till today, Friday. Strikes me as somehow targeting Jewish identity rather than the broad brushwork of DNA testing. Given that the Guardian has form in making life a bit harder for UK Jews, it occurs to me that the editorial decision could be 'well dodgy'.

  • If you knew anything about the Mid East you'd know there are many ethno-religious groups, the Druze, the Jews, the Yazidi. Jews are a people who came out of the Levant and we're genetically similar whether we ended up in other parts of the ME or in Europe. https://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/10/science/10jews.html

  • "Jewish communities in Europe and the Middle East share many genes inherited from the ancestral Jewish population that lived in the Middle East 3000 years ago..Jewish communities from Europe and the Middle East all have substantial genetic ancestry that traces back to the Levant"

  • "Ashkenazic and Sephardic Jews have roughly 30 percent European ancestry, with most of the rest from the Middle East..The two communities seem very similar to each other genetically, which is unexpected because they have been separated for so long."
