    So they have 1 year. I am sorry... the problem is? If I was in, for example Australia wanting residents status, I would be expected to fill in a lot of forms. Even when I did a working holiday I had to. This is not big news.

    The problem is they shouldn’t need to apply for settled status if they have lived in this country for years. It should be given automatically.

    Imagine an EU national with a job and house getting deported because they lack a made up settled status. Surely we have not become like this?

    The3million said many EU citizens in the UK were unaware of the requirement to register for settled status, while others were refusing to, as a protest against Brexit. Refusing to? Why would they refuse to?

    So? That gives them over a year to file a simple application to remain, which will likely be granted considering the very generous immigration policy. This is just reaching.
