What I don’t love is people sending me an intro 90% because there’s a female founder & I’m also a female. That’s just lazy. It’s also not a good matching mechanism. Yes, I want to help underrepresented founders, but everyone should do that. E.g., not only women should help women.
In this week's newsletter: @WeWork, @Cloudflare and @smiledirectclub are going public. I put together a reading list to catch you up. And a preview of Y Combinator's summer batch. https://techcrunch.com/2019/08/17/startups-weekly-the-mad-dash-to-the-public-markets/
I was one of those journalists that left the Times because I needed better pay. I am not only paying my own rent in Seattle, but like many immigrant kids I help support my parents financially too. #SeattleTimesUnion deserves equitable pay in a diverse newsroom! https://twitter.com/nealtmorton/status/1162421755681468416

16 Latin American startups. 11 Indian startups.
Just got the full list of YC companies pitching next week. It is a whopping 12 pages.

It’s strange to see Seattle praised for its approach to tackling the housing & homeless crisis. Not the narrative I grew up with: https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/heatherknight/article/They-re-getting-it-done-What-SF-can-14308325.php
Oh look, another YC startup who’s customers are ... other YC startups: https://techcrunch.com/2019/08/16/y-combinator-backed-narrator-wants-to-become-the-operating-system-for-data-science/
Such a great episode. Thanks again to @danprimack for coming on the show! And to @Drift / @LaceyBerrien for helping make our east coast episode happen! If you haven't listened to this episode yet, link below https://open.spotify.com/episode/6rW3fz6C9TxsB7KGq9XMA2?si=3SaZF-kiTEeN6gBD1TF2xA
Adam Driver and Maggie Gyllenhaal should play them in the movie. https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/15/tech/wework-adam-rebekah-neumann/index.html
Nothing like editing the shit out of a 3,000 word draft on a Thursday afternoon.
