If Republicans in Congress want to avoid having to comment on Trump's racist comments, they could always try changing the subject back to the president's connections to Jeffrey Epstein.
Epstein victim Courtney Wild, standing less than four feet from the accused sex trafficker told the judge: “He is a scary person to be walking the streets.”
In one exchange, Epstein’s lawyer, Martin Weinberg said: “It’s not like he is an out-of-control rapist,” to which judge Richard Berman replied “Hoe do you know that?”
SDNY says they learned today that Epstein had in a locked safe a foreign passport issued in the 1980s, expired, with a photo that appears to be Epstein and a name that is not his. It also gives his place of residence as Saudi Arabia.
When prosecutors noted in the Epstein hearing that they learned this morning of a safe in his home with piles of cash, diamonds, and a foreign passport with Epstein’s photo but a different name and under a residence in Saudi Arabia, the oxygen went out of the room.
Trump’s racist tweets & his double-down comments to the press this morning will pull attention away from the Epstein detention hearing this morning, where a federal judge will decide if he’s a flight risk or a danger to the community & must remain in custody. Coincidence?
This is from @MichaelWolffNYC’s ‘Fire and Fury’. Trump needs no introduction, Epstein has just been arrested for child sex trafficking & Tom Barrack is a private equity manager & key Trump adviser. Now guess which British businessman is a former business partner of Barrack... 1/2 pic.twitter.com/s4eAbMjknn
🚨 "We became aware today" of a passport issued by a foreign country, in the 1980s, expired currently, with Epstein's picture but not his name, Rossmiller says.
Good morning from New York.
At today’s Jeffrey Epstein bail hearing, will we learn:
* How many new accusers called the FBI tip line since his indictment?
* How much money he has and how he got it?
* Will he stay in jail before trial?

BREAKING: Two of Jeffrey Epstein’s victims spoke in court today I. An emotionally telling a federal judge that releasing Epstein on bail would hinder other victims from coming forward.
Because Epstein has been charged with sex trafficking of minors, he is subject to a presumption of detention based on risk of flight and danger to the community. Assets may ensure appearance, but not safety. He must present some evidence to rebut the presumption.
Via federal prosecutor Alex Rossmiller: investigators found a locked safe in Epstein's home with cash, diamonds, and an expired passport from another country that has Epstein's picture, a different name and his residence listed as Saudi Arabia.
This will not help with bail.
The invitation by the judge, asking victims if they wanted to speak, stunned Epstein — and everyone in the courtroom even federal prosecutors.
Berman adjourns the hearing and will issue his ruling on Thursday. I have a lot of new information to add to this DEVELOPING stub of a story, @CourthouseNews.

Epstein had a passport with his place of residence listed as Saudi Arabia. Makes it more likely he’ll be detained as a flight risk. https://twitter.com/eorden/status/1150779192201699332
Annie Farmer, one of Epstein's accusers: "I was 16-years-old when I had the misfortune to meet" Jeffrey Epstein, and she was flown into New Mexico.
"His wealth, his privilege and the notoriety of the case would make it... more difficult," Farmer says, her voice cracking.
Berman discloses that he read the New York Post report that Epstein was not in compliance with his obligations in New York. (He emphasizes that this is a news report, but questions the attorney about it.)
That NYP story: https://nypost.com/2019/07/10/nypd-let-convicted-pedophile-jeffrey-epstein-skip-judge-ordered-check-ins/
More on those New Mexico requirements.
Epstein's attorney denies that a private investigator tried to run a father off the road, an allegation prosecutors cited among witness tampering claims.
Two victims spoke during the Jeffrey Epstein bail hearing. The first was Annie Farmer, who said she was 16 when she met Epstein. As she spoke, Epstein had his head turned to stare at her, a stern expression on his face. He remained staring at her the entire time.
